The Macallan Harmony Collection Intense Arabica
The Macallan Harmony Collection Intense Arabica
Distillery Background and History
The Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 in Craigellachie, Scotland, and is one of the most respected and historic producers of single malt Scotch whisky in the world. The brand is celebrated for its dedication to oak cask maturation, precision in wood selection, and craftsmanship. In recent years The Macallan has expanded into limited-edition collections that explore creative expressions beyond traditional aged statements — such as the Harmony series, which blends its whisky heritage with inspiration from other sensory cultures such as coffee.
Producer and Master Distiller
Produced by The Macallan under The Edrington Group. This expression was crafted under the direction of Whisky Maker Steven Bremner, in collaboration with coffee experts to harmonize sherry-cask maturation with coffee-inspired sensory profiles.
Raw Materials and Terroir
Made from 100% malted Scottish barley, pure spring water from the Speyside estate, and traditional yeast. While whisky doesn’t have grape-style terroir, the quality of barley and water profoundly influences mouthfeel and character.
Distillation Method and Still Type
Distilled in traditional copper pot stills, which are typical for single malt Scotch, producing a rich, concentrated new-make spirit that responds well to oak maturation.
Maturation and Cask Management
This NAS whisky is matured in a combination of sherry-seasoned American oak and European oak casks. Some batches also interact with former coffee-related cask influence — in particular, barrels that previously held intense Arabica coffee — to enhance aromatic and flavour layers.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Crema-like hues reminiscent of a well-made espresso.
Nose: Tiramisu, cappuccino, gingerbread, raisins, almonds, sweet oak and vanilla.
Palate: Espresso and dark chocolate characters with raisin, vanilla custard, blackberry and Brazil nut undercurrents, balanced by oak spices and a smooth texture.
Finish: Long, rich, warming finish with lingering dark roast coffee, cocoa and sweet oak.
Food Pairing and Consumption Style
Pairs exceptionally well with coffee-based desserts such as tiramisu and espresso brownies, dark chocolate, nutty pralines, or rich pecan pie. Also pairs with aged cheeses like mature cheddar or Gouda and makes a contemplative after-dinner dram.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve neat in a Glencairn or tulip-shaped whisky glass at room temperature (18–20 °C) to concentrate the unique aroma mix of sherry oak and coffee influence. A few drops of water can open softer spices and deepen the coffee notes without diluting the drama.
Storage and Aging Potential
Store upright in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat. Since this is bottled whisky, it does not mature further, but will remain in stable condition for many years if stored properly.
Grain Composition and Percentage Used
100% malted barley, as with all legitimate single malt Scotch.
ABV (Alcohol by Volume)
44% ABV.
